Question 1

What's a good cost per lead (CPL) for SaaS PPC campaigns?

Accepted Answer

SaaS CPL varies widely by product value and sales cycle. Enterprise SaaS ($50k+ ACV) can justify $200-500 CPL. SMB SaaS ($1k-10k ACV) typically targets $50-150 CPL. Calculate your target CPL based on lifetime value (LTV) and close rate: (LTV × Close Rate × Target ROI) = Max CPL.

Question 2

Should SaaS companies use Google Ads or LinkedIn Ads?

Accepted Answer

Both, for different purposes. Google Ads captures high-intent searchers actively looking for solutions. LinkedIn excels at account-based marketing and reaching specific job titles/industries. Typically allocate 60-70% to Google for bottom-funnel capture, 30-40% to LinkedIn for awareness and targeting specific accounts.

Question 3

How do I reduce wasted spend on irrelevant clicks in SaaS PPC?

Accepted Answer

Build comprehensive negative keyword lists (job seekers, students, free, DIY). Use exact and phrase match over broad match. Target specific industries and company sizes in LinkedIn. Implement lead scoring to identify low-quality lead sources and adjust campaigns accordingly.

Question 4

What's the best landing page strategy for SaaS PPC?

Accepted Answer

Create dedicated landing pages for each campaign/keyword theme. Include clear value proposition, social proof (logos, testimonials), minimal form fields, and single CTA. Use demo request for high-intent keywords, free trial/content for awareness keywords. A/B test headlines and CTAs continuously.

Question 5

How do I track SaaS conversions beyond the initial lead?

Accepted Answer

Implement offline conversion tracking to import CRM data back to ad platforms. Track demo scheduled, demo completed, opportunity created, and closed-won as separate conversions. Use UTM parameters consistently and integrate with your CRM for true ROI measurement.

Question 6

What keywords should SaaS companies target in Google Ads?

Accepted Answer

Prioritize by intent: 1) Brand searches (highest intent, lowest CPC), 2) Competitor searches (high intent, moderate CPC), 3) Solution-aware keywords ('project management software'), 4) Problem-aware keywords ('how to improve team collaboration'). Start with solution-aware keywords for best initial ROI.

Question 7

How much should a SaaS company spend on PPC?

Accepted Answer

Start with $5k-10k/month to gather meaningful data. Scale based on results. Typical SaaS allocates 20-40% of marketing budget to paid acquisition. Calculate maximum spend based on: (Number of customers needed × CPL × Lead-to-Customer Rate). Underspending limits data for optimization.

Question 8

What's the role of retargeting in SaaS PPC?

Accepted Answer

Essential for long sales cycles. Segment audiences: homepage visitors, pricing page visitors, demo no-shows, trial users. Show different messaging to each: awareness → features → testimonials → special offers. Retargeting typically converts 3-5x better than cold traffic at 50-70% lower CPC.

Question 9

How do I compete with well-funded SaaS competitors in PPC?

Accepted Answer

Don't compete on broad terms—focus on specific use cases, industries, and long-tail keywords. Target competitor brand names (where legal). Emphasize differentiators: pricing, specific features, customer service. Use testimonials from customers who switched from competitors.

Question 10

Should SaaS companies run PPC to blog content?

Accepted Answer

Yes, strategically. Run low-cost campaigns to high-performing blog posts that generate email signups. Use these to build retargeting audiences cheaply. Target informational keywords that are too competitive for organic ranking. Focus on content that addresses problems your product solves.

Question 11

What ad copy works best for SaaS products?

Accepted Answer

Lead with specific outcomes, not features. Include numbers ('Save 10 hours/week'), social proof ('Trusted by 10,000+ teams'), and clear value proposition. Use dynamic keyword insertion for relevance. Test urgency elements carefully—SaaS buyers research thoroughly, so trust signals often beat urgency.

Question 12

How long until I see ROI from SaaS PPC campaigns?

Accepted Answer

Expect 2-3 months for optimization and 6-12 months for positive ROI on high-ACV products with long sales cycles. Track leading indicators: CPL, demo booking rate, lead quality scores. Short-cycle products (SMB, self-serve) can see ROI within 1-3 months with proper tracking.
